   Landscape Lighting

For many years lighting has been the fastest growing segment of the landscape industry. It is now firmly established as a normal service provided by landscape contractors. A lighting system is an arrangement of mechanical devices. But there’s much to it than just knowing how to make it work. Lighting is an art.

A good landscaper is already in tune with the artistic function of a landscape and all the natural components that are used. Incorporating a mechanical system isn’t that difficult. Lighting has evolved over the years. There are several manufacturers each with their own ideas, but the basics are easier than ever. With a little training and some practice the creative juices will start flowing and spectacular results are reached.

Why lighting has become so popular is very simple. People put a lot of money into their homes and their landscapes. Lighting extends the enjoyment of the outdoor environment after dark.

Lighting in effect creates two landscapes. One you see during the day and a totally different one you see at night. Of course the added benefits of security and safety lighting are important too, but it’s the artistic function that excites people.

Almost all landscape lighting is low voltage (12 volt) which means anyone can install it and there is a very low chance of harm or damage resulting. Our Lighting Specialist has developed a very concise and knowledge packed class to teach contractors how to design and install a lighting system. Watch for our next training brochure to sign up.

The choice of brands is still expanding. Almost to the point it’s too much. Our goal is to represent 3-4 brands that offer the fixtures end users want, the ease of installation, reliability, and the manufacture support required. Unique, Kichler, and Hadco meet these conditions. All our warehouses now stock lighting product and we can tailor our inventory to match your product choices.

For those already in the business we’d love to be your supplier. For those not in the business we can help you build a new profit center that is symbiotic with your current business.

Recently another aspect of landscape lighting has grown to be a significant business. That is the service of installing Holiday lighting or Christmas lights. Professionally installed holiday lighting is profoundly different that the typical stringing of some light strands. The effect can be magical and more homeowners and businesses want the “look”. For many landscapers it adds some good revenue at yearend.

The hardest part is dealing with the heights. Some just do not want to be working up in trees and on rooflines. Perhaps it’s a business for you. If so our Lighting Specialist can step you through how the business works and the technical part of installing lights.
