PolyVac- A Better Vac-Tube
Vacuum
truck operators have complained for years about the typical steel or
aluminum vacuum tubes. They crush or get damaged too easily. Worse, they
conduct electricity so it's a little scary when hydro-excavating around
power lines.
High density poly pipe, HDPE, eliminates those problems. To start with wear
and tear or damage is almost eliminated because of the toughness
of HDPE pipe. Compared to steel, aluminum, or PVC a vacuum tube made from
HDPE will last forever. It won't crack or crush and you can't dent it.
Puncturing it is nearly impossible. Wear from abrasion is greatly minimized
as well.
Electrical conductivity so minimal that it can be considered an insulate.
Independent testing has shown only a slight trace (0.165 milliamps) of
conductivity at 75,000 volts per foot. No longer does a crew need to worry
about electrocution when excavating around power wires.
However,
HDPE is heavier than aluminum. For example an 8" diameter 6' long PolyVac
tube will weigh almost double a similar tube in aluminum. Depending on the
application, a crew will notice the weight difference. So far all those who
have tried PolyVac tubes are ordering more. The resiliency of the PolyVac
has proved more beneficial than the heavier weight.
