Water Features
|
Small
ponds in the landscape became popular a few years ago. Now they are an art
form! The addition of a water feature will transform a landscape into a
magical place. Water features add the physical beauty of flowing water or
shimmering ponds. But theres more. The calming sounds of water gurgling
over stones or down waterfalls muffles out the sounds of the outside world
creating a secluded spot away from every day life.
Water features can
support water based plants adding points of interest in the landscape. They
can also be home to aquatic life such as fish, frogs, turtles, etc. A water
feature is a unique landscape feature because it moves, has sound, and
incorporates living creatures.
Water
features can include a pond with waterfalls or channels. However, some
prefer to have the channels and/or falls without a pond to minimize
maintenance. Ponds do require maintenance. Think of them like an aquarium
outside. Pondless falls and channels give the illusion of creeks and
waterfalls without a pond. Water is stored in an underground chamber.
Water
features can be as small as a flower pot on a deck or a hundred foot creek
bed empting into a fairly large pond. It is amazing what can be created for
almost any property. The best features blend into the natural elevation
changes of the property so they appear natural. Selection of the proper
stone will enhance the natural affect.
The
addition of lighting will allow the feature to be viewed at night, which is
a very
spectacular view. To make the scene even more interesting add some fog
into the landscape! Water features truly do cause a backyard to become
a magical setting. One that will provide endless hours of enjoyment.
